Well, it didn’t take long for Putin to let Donald know who’s really the boss. Three days after the election was called, Russian state TV congratulated Melania Trump on her husband’s reelection… by airing nude photos of her on Russian state TV.
With Republicans holding on to the House while winning the Senate and the White House, they’ve won the trifecta. With control of all three branches of government, whatever happens over the next two (or possibly four) years will be utterly, entirely up to them.
No doubt, the reasons are legion and the analysis / finger-pointing will go on for a very, very long time. Was it because she was a woman? Was it because that, as Vice-President, she couldn’t distance herself sufficiently from the Biden administration? Was it because she didn’t push back on the transgender ads?
Did you see the November 7 NYT front page? It’s positively triumphant. The press is now falling all over each other in the race to demonstrate their willing fealty to the crown…
As I write this, I’m watching Stephanie Miller (one of the few news-related programs I think I’ll be able to watch for a while) and they keep talking about saving democracy. Well, guess what? We just had a very democratic election, with no indication of significant voter irregularity.
Every time I hear the media refer to Republicans on the Supreme Court (and elsewhere) as “conservative,” it makes my blood boil. What’s “conservative” about radical rulings that defy both long-standing precedent and the meaning of the Constitution itself?
The impulse to report on the election as a “horse race” is practically irresistible. The lack of movement in the polls despite Harris’ strong debate performance and Trump’s increasingly unstable behavior is a testament to the seeming immovability of Trump voters…
In reporting on the 2024 elections, the media is completely missing what’s really going on: The Republican objective isn’t necessarily to win the election outright. The real objective is to make the race close enough so that its results can be challenged… and ultimately overturned.
